by St. Mark’s Christian Generosity Committee
It is said that being generous is more than being kind or giving, but it is giving more to others than expected. In fact, studies show that being generous activates the same parts of the brain as receiving rewards or experiencing pleasure. St. Mark’s is a generous community. We rise to the challenge whenever there is a need.
While Christian generosity or “stewardship” is often viewed as promoting monetary giving (yes, we still need to pay our bills during the summer), we are thrilled with other forms of generosity springing up in our midst. New and reactivated groups such as the widow and widowers’ group “Good Grief” and the Men’s Group, allow us to give to others in ways less tangible. We also give to the community, whether it is the Food Bank, Huron hunger fund, the SPCA or the Blessing Centre. Remember though that being kind and generous may simply mean spending a little more time talking with a friend or smiling at a person you’ve not met before.
“Kind words are like honey sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”
Proverbs 16:24
Save The Date
This year is St. Mark’s 70th Anniversary and we are celebrating “70 Years of Generosity” on September 17th. We will be having an open house from 12 – 3pm. Plan to bring friends and family who have been a part of St. Mark’s history for an afternoon of reminiscing and celebration. Please mark the date on your calendar.
If you or your family have pictures from years past that you would like to share to be displayed, please submit them electronically to [email protected] or drop them off at the office (with your name, the date it was taken and who is in the picture) and we will scan them and return them to you.
