Rector’s Christmas Letter 2024
“Look at the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves
and know that summer is already near.” – Luke 21:29-30
My Dear Friends in Christ,
As we enter this season of Advent and prepare our hearts for the celebration of Christ’s birth, I am struck by the powerful themes of renewal and hope that resonate so deeply this year. Advent reminds us that, even in times of change and uncertainty, God’s light shines brightly,
leading us toward new beginnings filled with promise and possibility.
This message of hope feels particularly personal for me as I prepare to begin a new chapter in my own journey. As you know, I have announced my retirement from parish ministry, which will begin in the new year. This decision comes with mixed emotions. I am filled with gratitude for
the 3 years we have shared together, a sense of anticipation for what lies ahead, and a deep appreciation for the support and love you have shown me throughout our time of ministry together.
Serving as your parish priest has been a great blessing to me. Together, we have walked through seasons of joy and sorrow, growth and challenge, always finding ways to trust in God’s faithfulness to guide and sustain us. I am profoundly grateful for your prayers, encouragement,
and partnership in ministry. Your generosity of spirit has been a constant source of strength \and inspiration to me.
Just as the sprouting leaves of the fig tree signal the coming of summer, so too this moment invites us to trust in God’s promise of renewal.
While this transition brings change for both me and for you at St. Mark’s, I trust that God is at work in this time of transformation. Just as the sprouting leaves of the fig tree signal the coming of summer, so too this moment invites us to trust in God’s promise of renewal. For St.
Mark’s, this is an opportunity to reflect on your shared mission, to discern new directions, and to continue shining as a beacon of hope and love in our community. For me, it is a time to rest, reflect, and listen for God’s call in this new chapter of my life.
As we journey through Advent and celebrate the birth of our Saviour, let us remember that God’s love is constant, unshaken by time or circumstance. Christ’s birth assures us that even in times of uncertainty, God is bringing new life into the world. Let us embrace this season with faith, hope, and an openness to the transformation God has in store for us.
May your Christmas be filled with joy and peace, and may the coming year bring new opportunities to grow in grace and love. Thank you, from the depths of my heart, for the privilege of serving as your parish priest.
With love, gratitude, and peace,
The Rev’d Canon Rob Park
